Is he interested, and how to make the next move?

I recently switched jobs and have my eyes on a very cute guy who works in sales. I only see him a few times a week, but when I do I always make a point of engaging him in some small talk (e.g. "What did you do on the weekend? etc) and he is interested enough to at least hang about and chat for a few minutes.

I have been hoping he would make the next move and ask me on a date, but it hasn't happened yet, and I'm wondering whether I should. Is there something I could perhaps say to him to test the waters first, rather than just asking him for a date straight away?

I'm not use to having to make the first move, so it's kind of new terroritory for me, and I'm not even totally sure whether he's interested, or just being polite.

Any insights?
